The bottom line is, your Web site needs to do three things really well:
1. It must be attractive in order to convey a favorable and
accurate first impression of your company.
2. It must be compelling so that casual viewers are encouraged
to explore the site further and find out more about you and your product.
3. It must be intuitive so that so that visitors looking for
specific information can find it easily.
I'm still a big proponent of the two-color logo. You can
fax it, you can copy it, you can see it from far away, and you can add colors later if that floats your boat. They also tend
to be much harder to do well than multicolor logos, which is another reason why I like them. If a person can design a good
black and white logo, then color is easy.
Web ads are the billboards of the online world. People -
potential customers - see them only in passing as they make their way somewhere else. Here's the trick: Make your ads stick
in the mind so that viewers are still thinking about them four or five clicks later.
